Nipomo

Nipomo is a small town in San Luis Obispo County right off the scenic 101 freeway midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Nipomo’s first inhabitants were the Chumash Indians, who gave the town its name, meaning “at the foothills,” referring to the foothills under the Sierra Madre Mountain Range to the east.

Nipomo is the best of both worlds…a historic rural community on the edge of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The small town ambiance in such close proximity to big city amenities and unrestrained natural beauty are just a few reasons why it’s becoming harder and harder to keep this pleasant little community a secret.

Neighbors

With home prices being more favorable than larger cities, not to mention the ideal weather, Nipomo has been a draw for retirees for many years. But, the short one-hour commute south to Santa Barbara (and 30 minutes north to San Luis Obispo,) has more and more young professionals and college students who attend Cal Poly, Cuesta College or Allan Hancock College considering making Nipomo their home.

Local Flavor

Trilogy Central Coast is a newer development located within The Woodlands, a 957-acre master planned community. Trilogy has everything you need to stay active, all within minutes of home. Spend the day golfing at Monarch Golf Course, or take a break for a gourmet breakfast or lunch at Adelina’s Bistro. Adelina’s offers savory dishes prepared with fresh and local organic produce and has carefully handpicked a variety of local wines. If you’ve had a rough day, pamper yourself with a relaxing massage or therapeutic body treatment at the tranquil, luxurious Sandlewood Spa, located in Trilogy Central Coast.

Fore!

If golf is your game, Nipomo has a special treat for you. Nestled among California Oaks and Blue Gum Eucalyptus trees, Blacklake Golf Resort is the Central Coast’s only 27-hole golf course. Sparkling pools and the “Lakes and Canyon” layout of the course make Blacklake a unique golf experience for everyone.

A Town for Everyone

The Olde Towne Nipomo Association is working on revamping the original center of town by creating a quaint village feel with boutique shops and restaurants – and even old-fashioned streetlights. Hidden away downtown is the Kaleidoscope Inn Bed & Breakfast. Built in 1886, the Inn is one of the town’s oldest buildings. Stepping through the gate is like wandering into a secret garden.

Speaking of gardens, Old Town Nursery has everything you need for your own garden. The nursery hosts “Wine & Roses” on the third Tuesday of the month where you can meet local wine makers and taste wines in the nursery’s beautiful setting.

Local Dining

Nipomo has a mix of eateries from small cafes and sushi to “vintage” restaurants. Jocko’s Steakhouse opened in 1962 and they’ve had a line out the door ever since. It’s not uncommon to meet diners who have driven from Los Angeles just to have a famous Jocko “Santa Maria style” steak. If you prefer something with a little spice, Nipomo has some of the best authentic Mexican food in San Luis Obispo County.

Nipomo is just minutes away from wine tasting, fine dining, hiking, ocean sports and lakes. One visit and you will see how this quaint little town is blossoming into a thriving community.
